Taking home a souvenir from Etna does not mean buying a made-in-China plastic magnet. This land offers unique gastronomic and artisanal excellence, the result of the fertility of the volcanic soil and local craftsmanship.
Bronte Green Pistachio DOP
The green gold of Sicily. It grows on the lava of the Western slope (Bronte) where no other plant would survive. It is smaller, greener, and infinitely tastier than foreign pistachios. Beware of imitations! Buy certified DOP (shelled, cream, or whole).
The spreadable pistachio cream is a real danger to your diet, but it is the most appreciated gift you can give.
Ceramics and Lava Stone
Local craftsmanship works with ceramized lava stone. Indestructible tables, plates, and furnishings, decorated with the colors of the sun and sea. The "Teste di Moro" (Moorish Heads), typical of Sicily, are also a must.
Wine, Oil and Honey
A bottle of Etna Rosso DOC is mandatory. Just like Zafferana honey. Less known but excellent is the Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Etna (Monte Etna DOP), fruity and slightly spicy, produced from centuries-old olive trees growing on the stones.
Etna Oil (Nocellara)
The extra virgin olive oil produced on the slopes of Etna (DOP Monte Etna) is excellent. It has a spicy and fruity taste, thanks to the volcanic soil. It is perfect for seasoning legume soups or simply on hot bread ('pane cunzato').
Etna Apples
The Cola Apple and Gelato Cola Apple are two ancient varieties, small and ugly to look at, but very sweet and crunchy. They grow at high altitudes and are a concentrate of vitamins. They are sold in kiosks along the roads in autumn.
