This excursion will take you to discover the North Slope of Etna, famous for its unique contrasts: we will cross ancient pine and birch forests to reach lunar landscapes carved by lava. Highlights include a walk on the Sartorius Craters (a spectacular "buttonhole" of extinct craters) and the exciting exploration of the Grotta dei Ladroni (Thieves Cave), a lava flow tunnel where we will enter equipped with helmets and torches.

Meeting in Linguaglossa (or Pick-up) and departure by Minivan/SUV. Off-road crossing of the Ragabo Pine Forest to reach the front of the majestic 2002 lava flow, the "perfect eruption" that threatened Linguaglossa.
Arrival at Rifugio Citelli and start of the easy trekking (3km). We will walk among white birch trees and black sand to admire the "Sartorius Craters", a spectacular buttonhole of extinct craters at 1700m, a UNESCO heritage site.
We put on helmets and torches! We will descend inside a lava flow cave (Grrotta dei Ladroni). We will discover how these tunnels form and their history linked to their use as "snow cellars" in past centuries.
After enjoying the unique landscapes of the North slope, expected return to the starting point around 14:00.
