Etna summit craters: how to check access

An evergreen page cannot confirm access to the summit today. Altitude, route and departure depend on volcanic activity, weather, official restrictions and the guides’ assessment.

Lateral craters, routes around 2,000 metres and the summit area are different experiences. A transport ticket to an altitude is not permission to continue higher. Check planned altitude, walking ascent and participation requirements before choosing.

Use INGV for volcano monitoring, Civil Protection for risk information and local authority notices for restrictions. An alert level is not a map of open trails and does not guarantee an absence of danger. Ask which rules apply to your booked departure.

High-altitude trips require suitable fitness, footwear and protection against wind and cold. Discuss personal requirements before booking. If the planned route is unavailable, ask about alternatives and the applicable booking conditions; do not assume an automatic refund or change.
