You can visit Etna and the Alcantara Gorges in the same day by choosing an itinerary that includes both. Our programme begins with the landscapes of Etna North and continues into the Alcantara valley. It suits travellers who want a varied day: volcanic trails, a cave, lunch and a river canyon, rather than spending all their time on one long hike.
The day, step by step
- Morning on Etna: explore the northern volcanic landscapes, including the walk around the Sartorius Craters.
- Lava cave: discover the volcano below the surface, with a helmet and torch included in the tour.
- Lunch stop: a first course, drink and coffee at a local mountain refuge, included in the programme.
- Afternoon at Alcantara: transfer from the volcano into the valley and visit the gorges, with admission included.
The Sartorius section is around 3 km; the tour page lists 6–7 km of walking across the whole day. Transfers connect the different settings and separate the walking stages. This is not a summit crater climb: the experience focuses on the northern side of Etna and the river valley.
Pack for two different settings
Bring trail footwear and layers for Etna. For the gorge visit, add a swimsuit, towel and suitable water footwear if you want to use them, and keep dry clothes separate. A small bag is handy for keeping wet items away from your jacket. Lunch is already part of the programme, so focus your packing on being comfortable for a full day outdoors.
Choose your departure point
The tour offers meeting points in Catania, Taormina, Giardini Naxos and other locations listed on its page. Piano Provenzana is not a pickup point for this itinerary. On group tours, free pickup within 30 km of Linguaglossa operates only at designated points. Open the full programme and booking calendar to choose your date, participants and meeting location.
